Captain's Profiles

William H Wilkerson has been in the sport fishing business for 18 years starting in Santa Monica, California as a deck hand on a half day boat during the summers.

At the age of 16, William moved to San Diego where  he became a dead head on the sport boat  San Diego with Roy Rose ,
before joining the crew of Mascot 6 out of H&M Landing where he worked for two years.  He then joined the owner-operator Ray Sobieck on board he Producer, where for the next 14 seasons he honed his skills as deck boss.

During that 14-year span with the Producer, William became one of three African American Captains in San Diego. He ran as second operator for four years, learning all facets of the business from how to run a successful  sport fishing operation to providing the best customer service possible.

Michael A Schmidt- Has been in the sport fishing industry for 14 years. Starting in San Diego California, at the age of 13 as a dead head aboard the half day  boat Fisherman III under the direction of Tim Green, Michael went from dead head to a paid crew member and worked for Tim Green eight years.

Michael then worked on the overnight boat the Champ as a deck hand  for two years, then went back to Tim Green after he purchased the Malihini. Michael  has been running the Malihini for 5 years as Captain and has had his Captains license for 8 years. Michael's experience as a sport boat Captain on the ¾ day run is invaluable. His knowledge of the Coronado Islands is second to none.

June has run the Malihini galley for over 20 years and is truly a great person. She makes one heck of a pineapple burger and provide top notch guest service.

During a hot bite you may even catch her on the gaff and helping out on deck. There is comfortable seating in the galley and is fully stocked with hot and cold food and beverages.
